ABOUT

Syd Bee spent her childhood as a military brat, moving frequently across the US and abroad. In response to ever-shifting surroundings, she found comfort in comics, cartoons, and old films, particularly horror & science fiction. These early influences left an indelible mark.

After graduating magna cum laude from Cornish College of the Arts, Syd settled in the verdant Pacific Northwest. Her fascination with how objects accumulate meaning, and what it means to preserve, collect, and display them, led her to the study of museum practice. She is currently completing a Certificate in Museum Studies Foundations through the University of Washington.

When she's not painting, Syd can be found hunting through dusty bookshops, gazing into the flickering shadows of an old movie, or contemplating what belongs in a vitrine and why.

Whether her work stems from years of practice or a pact with unseen forces, one thing is certain: Syd's art continues to captivate and bewitch all who fall under its spell.

“Syd’s new work is based on the concept of the Monstrous Feminine- with a heavy dose of kitschy cool thrown in- rendered in candy glazed sumptuous palettes.” - Kirsten Anderson, Roq La Rue Gallery

“Syd Bee is a Seattle-based painter whose work seems plucked directly from the dream world. Bee uses rich, rosy tones in much of her art while exploring somber themes and emotions, and the marriage of these opposing elements gives her pieces a surreal, otherworldly quality.” - Kindra Nikole, Beautiful Bizarre Magazine
